Jeggings?

Since I began cycling in earnest I have become a big fan of leggings. Not just those in lycra, I'm taking about ones you wear in every day life.

Black leggings with a long jumper/t-shirt transfer beautifully from bike to going out and I even own a pair of black calf boots bought specifically for wearing with leggings. I also own a couple of pairs of crazy tights. They're thick and opaque but one pair has a stripes in shades of grey while the other has a fabulous ribbed pattern. All well and good.

However, I was recently having a wander round M&S when I realised to my horror that the new leggings I was considering, were in fact, jeggings. Leggings woven with a pattern to make them look like the skinniest of skinny jeans. And I was actually considering buying them.

I have fairly good legs (I have been complimented on them) and they would be immensely practical for cycling as they're completely opaque but I'm unsure.

Any ideas?

  1. Personally I'm really not a fan of these, although I do like the term jeggings, which I had not previously heard.

  2. I'm going to have to side with Miss Chief. I think the leggings thing has got a bit out of control. I saw a girl the other day wearing what she must have thought was a tunic with what she thought were leggings, but really, she was wearing a t-shirt and tights and her bright white underwear were showing through. Not that it is a bad thing, but she was also a very plus size sort of gal.

    But jeggings, yes, good word!

  3. Jeggings give you camel-toe unfortunately, which is only marginally better than the see-through dilemma Abby talks about. I've seen many a thong whilst cycling and I can only assume the thong-wearer doesn't realise her leggings are totally see-through and the whole world can see both arse cheeks in all their glory!

  4. Phew! Sounds like my assessment was correct. And for the record I only wear leggings with tops that cover both the camel toe and bottom. They're opaque but one is a lady.

  5. I thought they sounded ideal, but everytime I have seen someone wearing them I have thought no that is so wrong!

I can cycle no problems in my skinny jeans anyway!
