Screw the scouts, cyclists are the preparation kings

This afternoon I have to cycle straight to an important appointment. It's eight miles from the office and there's no direct transport link. I don't really have any other practical option other than to cycle.

Prep started last week. I looked into the transport situation and decided to cycle.

The last two days I've been researching routes. Yesterday A2 sent me a perfect one that's not too arduous (read sweaty) and it's pretty as it goes through Richmond Park.

This morning I was up early to decide on outfit (transferable from bike to walking around looking smartish) and 'the kit'. Facial wipes? Check. Dry shampoo? Check. Deodorant? Check. Make-up? Check.

Get to work this morning. Damn! I haven't bought new shampoo (current one makes my hair greasy and gross). Off to Hammersmith Broadway in lycra to pick some up.

I'm now ready, in a transferable outfit with clean hair and all the necessary bits and bobs. I'm also knackered. Zzzzzzzzz

  1. Cycling is far better than horrid public transport...you'd end up more sweaty on a train or bus.
Also far more fun on a bike.
Enjoy the sights and weather and don't forget your sunscreen...oh I really need to remember that one myself! :)

  2. I use face-specific suncreen instead of moisturiser in this weather having got badly burnt last year :@(

  3. Hi Weenie, sorry was not sure how else to contact you, but I wanted to get your advice on something that seems to have really annoyed me today. (P.s. I think you should have an 'ask Weenie' page or something, being the knowledgeable cyclist that you are).

    Right...onto the serious stuff...
I ordered a pair of short finger cycling gloves from Wiggle (these ones: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Assos_Ladies_Summer_Short_Finger_Cycling_Gloves/5360042812/) and received them in the post today...and am now having doubts about them.
First off, they sent me ones with white palms...when I asked for black (for obvious dirt reasons)...
Secondly...I feel I may have been a bit stupid and quick to purchase as they were...well...a bit costly...and having seen them in the 'flesh' today...they seem a bit on the flimsy side.

Am probably going to return them now...though, once again stupidly, I seem to have filled out an exchange form instead of just a return and get my money back one!

Any advice on well padded short finger cycling gloves and which ones you find to be better?
My poor hands are really taking a beating on the bike...especially with all the bloody speed bumps I have to go over (30 over a 2.5mile journey)!

Sorry for the long post, but thought you might be able to help and any help would be much appreciated.

    Thank you. :)
