Bike trailers

Have been ogling bikes and, more specifically, bike trailers.

While Mr Weenie is adamant that Eenie will NOT be making an appearance on a bike/trailer while in infancy, surely there's no harm in looking? Besides, some of them are purely cargo ones...

To my shock, what I've discovered is a huge expensive array of options. For under £200 you can get a rather swanky bright yellow option with five-point harnesses for up to two children.

I've also stumbled across the frankly disturbing idea of 'doggy joggers'. Yes, trailers so that even the most pampered of puppies can avoid getting their paws dirty while still enjoying the scenery.

What I also found was AtoB, a sustainable transport mag that has a fairly comprehensive list of the available trailers.

  1. Have you considered a cargo bike? They look like so much fun and I'm sure you could fit Mr Weenie in the bucket part too...for fun/torture!

Working in a place where I see a lot (Lots and lots) of parents everyday, everyone seems to be pregnant!
Good luck with the rest of the pregnancy.

  2. Trailers worry me because you can't see your child and potentially nor can drivers. I was very impressed the other day to see a front-mounted baby seat on a bike. I don't like the ones that go behind the saddle (you always see children being squashed sideways by the parent's rucksack!) but this one was mounted just behind the handlebars and I thought was cool.

Otherwise you can get bikes with a child "box" on the front I think - is that what The Woollen Typist means by a cargo bike?

    Happy shopping :-)

  3. Hey don't judge those of us who enviously look at doggie bike trailers! Some of us have old/infirm pups who can't walk far. Sadly my other half is as resistant to purchasing one as you are so I have to continue carrying him on trips to the vet... :o(
